Coming back to his school, giving back to his city
Jeremy Oatis is a Sci High alumnus, class of 2008. Jeremy was raised in New Orleans in the Melpomene Housing Development, born the ninth child of eleven. Jeremy was educated in New Orleans public schools at William J. Guste Elementary School, Carter G. Woodson Middle School, and Warren Easton before finding his home at Sci High. It was at here where Jeremy was inspired by Sci High teachers and staff, Eric Mikulak, Kevin Dickerson, and Tim Dilligan, to pursue higher education as a first-generation college student.
Jeremy made the decision to attend Xavier University of Louisiana and pursue a Bachelors of Arts in History. While attending Xavier Jeremy continued to work full-time for a Urban Impact Ministries as the Recreation Director while also assisting with the after school Education Program. Upon graduation Jeremy made a decision to join the Sci High Family this time as a faculty member teaching Strategic Reading and Journey to Careers. Mr. Oatis then moved in to the Behavior Interventionist role and ultimately rose through the ranks to become the Dean of Students. Mr. Oatis’s educational philosophy is to engage, equip, empower, and educate future leaders who will make a lasting, positive impact on the world.
