Capital Campaign Impact
Approaching $4,000,000 secured to make good on our promise.
In response to Sci High’s tremendous success and the city’s need for a State-of-the-Art STEM High School to prepare the next generation of STEM-industry workforce and leaders, the Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) approved and has started the construction of a new school building for Sci High. OPSB broke ground on the new school facility in November 2018, and construction will be completed in 2021. The $32 million construction project will transform Sci High into a school with cutting-edge capabilities and the capacity to elevate the school’s programmatic and curricular offerings to unprecedented heights.
To supplement OPSB’s investment, Sci High has launched a $1 million capital campaign effort to equip and furnish the much-needed new educational facility with necessary STEM-based enhancements. The new facility will allow Sci High to expand its enrollment by 38% over the next several years, growing its student population to 650.
The new school will feature:
- STEM learning-supportive classrooms and labs, including a Fabrication Lab, an Engineering Lab, a Digital Graphics Lab, a Bio-Medical Lab, 3 Science Labs, and 2 Science classrooms
- A hybrid gymnasium and auditorium – the first in the school’s history – with seating for 400 and a versatile staging area for performances and presentations
- A state-of-the-art Visual Arts & Media Centers
- Expanded special education classrooms and resource centers
A tiered “learning staircase” with amphitheater-style seating for smaller presentations
Outdoor learning areas and space for physical education classes
Our supporters have propelled our success beyond our expectations! In only 10 months, the campaign has secured over $900,000 and the Foundation for Science and Mathematics Education has been approved for $3,000,000 Capital Outlay Funds.
Without your generous support and commitment to this project, this success would not be possible!! We are especially grateful to our lead donors: the RosaMary Foundation, the Keller Family Foundation & Mary Zervigon, the Georges Lurcy Charitable and Educational Trust & George Bernstein, and the Booth-Bricker Foundation. We would also like to thank the Advocates for Science and Mathematics Education (Sci High’s Governance Board) and the Foundation for Science and Mathematics Education Board, whom together contributed over 30% of the $1,000,000 Capital Campaign fundraising goal.
It is not too late to be a part of this exciting project. We welcome your contributions in support a viable workforce across the city, state and region.
