FSME Board members invest in our future leaders
Foundation for Science and Mathematics Education board members, Dr. Barbara Beckman (not pictured), Dr. Dedrick Sims and Curtis Pellerin present 250 copies of Dr. Sims’ new book, “Hey Man, We Just Talkin: A Daily Conversation With Young Men” to Sci High.
The daily reader is written for young men from 10-20 years old and contains 20 passages of encouraging words that are designed to not only encourage, but to also challenge their assumptions about their maleness and what being a man is all about. It covers topics such as education, love, money, responsibility, grit, relationships, respect, faith, death, and many other topics from the male perspective. The passages also include reactions from other men on the topics and how those topics have played out in their lives. It is meant to be a quick read that could be used to start the day, be a source of mid-day encouragement, or a way to end the day in reflection and growth.
Sci High will issue the books to male students this semester and Dr. Sims will lead a virtual book club to discuss each chapter with students.
Because of the generosity of our board members and funders, we make good on our commitment to close the gap between public funding and the resources needed to provide a high-quality STEM education at Sci High.
